Will Smith or Willard Christopher ‘Will’ Smith Jr. was born on the 25th of September, 1968 in Philadelphia. Early on in Overbrook High School in West Philadelphia, his charming manner of behavior earned him the nickname of ‘Prince’. He was a good student by all accounts and his parents wanted him to attend college.

However, he knew what he wanted to do in life. He had started rapping with his friend Jeff Townes (DJ Jazzy Jeff) and Clarence Holmes (Ready Rock C). They had already begun making good music which was being played on the radio. Tunes like ‘Girls Aint Nothing But Trouble’ and ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand’ brought him into the limelight.

Will Smith won a Grammy in the Rap category for ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand’ and became a millionaire. But since he did not pay his taxes, was close to bankruptcy. That was when NBC signed him on to the sit-com ‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’.

His career was launched and the show was a resounding success. While still on the show, he debuted in a movie called ‘Six Degrees of Separation’ where he played a gay con man and in a movie called ‘Bad Boys’ with Martin Lawrence which was a buddy-cop drama.

After that came his successful roles in movies like ‘Independence Day’ in 1996, and ‘Men In Black’ in 1997. Along with this came ‘Wild Wild West’ which did not fare so well.

Will Smith has also been well received in all his roles in movies such as ‘Enemy of the State’, ‘Men In Black II’, ‘Bad Boys II’, ‘I, Robot’, ‘Hitch’ and his recent success ‘The Pursuit Of Happyness’.

In 2001, he received an Academy Award for Best Actor for the part he played in the biopic ‘Ali’ and was recently nominated for his part in the movie ‘The Pursuit Of Happyness’.

Will Smith also has had quite a success with his music career. His singles ‘Men In Black’ and ‘Getting Jiggy Wit It’ have been tremendously successful.
